Biography

Dr. Gao is an Associate Professor and Director of Physics Research in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Cancer Center. Prior to joining KU in 2021, Dr. Gao served as Assistant Professor in the Departments of Mathematics, Radiology, and Radiation Oncology at Emory University, and Professor in the School of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Gao’s research laboratory at KUMC is currently being funded by an NIH R37 MERIT grant, a KUCC physicist-scientist recruiting grant, and industry grants. Dr. Gao is board certified in Therapeutic Physics by the American Board of Radiology and provides clinical service at the KUCC Radiation Oncology located in the Richard and Annette Bloch Radiation Oncology Pavilion. He is dedicated to developing the next-generation imaging and radiation therapy modalities for cancer diagnosis and treatment.
