"Novel Therapeutics for Brain Disorders: Targeting Epigenetic Systems"
Zijun Wang, Ph.D.
Professor
KU Pharmacology and Toxicology

The pathophysiology for most Brain disorders are complex. Many molecular signaling pathways or genes expression may be disrupted under disease condition. These factors make the pharmacotherapy very challenging. Epigenetic system is the master control for many other genes expression. Therefore, targeting epigenetic factors to adjust a broad range of genes expression may become an effective strategy to treat brain disorders with complex molecular mechanisms. In this seminar, I will briefly mention how epigenetic factors contribute to the neurobiology of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and how it is implicated in the pharmacotherapy for ASD.
